The Electronic Security and Access Control Market

Security and Access Control System

Mark Borto, president and CEO of Boon Edam, has identified three trends to watch out for that may impact the business strategy of companies in this market for the coming year. With increasingly dynamic work environments and institutions where entrances are the center of activity, Security and access control systems have become the mainstay of security systems; For this reason, little by little company managers have been understanding the risks of the entry of unauthorized users. Against this background, important trends emerge with a view to what the market will be in any year.

Trend # 1: perimeter security

The trend towards strengthening perimeter security will continue in 2017 in all types of institutions. The security departments of companies are beginning to better understand the risks associated with the entry of unauthorized users, in this case, those who enter by sneaking in or hitting other users; companies are already more aware of the repercussions that this generates and there is a growing search for solutions that end the entry of more than one user with a single identification.

Similarly, there is also an increase in the use of biometrics compared to only card readers. Growth is also estimated in the use of automated visitor management systems or a second reader integrated with an optical turnstile.

Trend # 2: integrators will gain more weight when it comes to recommending unwanted visitor control solutions

Few integrators had an impact on the promotion of security barriers among their clients, new or potential. Typically, they waited for an owner to request the product and this diligence led to the security consultant, who, in turn, forwarded the request to the integrator. However, more and more integrators are realizing the progressive recognition that end users are having regarding the risks posed by the entry of unauthorized users.

Pioneers who start taking action could be the next beneficiaries: they will increase their added value vis-à-vis end users and lead the growth curve of the security income sector; They can also be used to generate higher income and profits with this security and access control system.

As with the migration from analog to digital technology 15 years ago, those who innovated benefited and grew.

Trend # 3: Data Centers, a Sleeping Giant in the Visitor Control Solutions Industry

Data centers are an enigma in the market. Storage capacity is growing at a very rapid rate and we believe that most of these centers do not use security and  access control System products and we are not sure why.

High-security gateways have not really been successful in this industry even though the data storage rate is growing and shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Perhaps they think that the cost of having 24-hour security personnel ‘is justified’, perhaps they consider that the risk of having an income without security personnel is ‘not justified’.

The reality is that this industry can be a potential consumer of visitor control solutions; surely the probability that there is entry of unauthorized users sticking to others when an entry is installed without security personnel is still too high. We are not sure. Perhaps the industry needs to offer products that are 100% effective.

Five technologies that will improve citizen identifications

New identification cards, known as OSM MultiTech, will be able to store different types of information on the card, offering more security for citizen carriers. In addition, the antennas on cards enabled with RFID features can be integrated into the card design, thanks to the e-window feature, developed by HID Global. And finally, citizens will be able to store their identity documents on mobile phones thanks to Sees® technology, developed by the firm.

HID Global® works on the future of personal identification by developing and promoting five technologies that promise a change in the way people identify themselves. These technological bets are aligned to the needs of governments and private organizations for having agile solutions for identification and robust and secure access.

  • OSM MultiTech Card:

    – This new product combines advance technologies DBond ™ and OSM HID Global’s to create a new and highly secure card, allowing information to store in different parts of the credential using laser engraving, OSM stripe encoding and storage chips, helping to protect citizens’ identities in an increasingly challenging global environment. This improvement consolidates the legacy of the OSM card, whose performance has prove in multiple applications around the world. The most common use for this solution is identity cards or state citizenship cards.

  • e-Window Security Feature:

Today, the conventional wire antenna design is only use for the RFID functionality of the proximity card. safety e-Window feature HID Global’s (patent pending) is laser customization of the antenna design in order to create a word, logo or even frame when the transparent window is laser customize. Counterfeiters attempting to remove or replace the clear window on the card will destroy the RFID functionality.

  • UV Full Color Picture Security Feature –

This new product is an enhancement to HID Global’s current portfolio of security features built into the card, intended for its new thin data page offering. This feature allows you to locate a full color UV image that is invisible in daylight but visible when exposed to UV light. By embedding a UV image on the data page, you greatly increase the level of protection against duplication and reproduction, due to the difficulty of aligning three or more UV colors on the page. It is also nearly impossible to replicate the color balance used in the original, the original UV image, especially using the standard UV inks that are available on the market today. With all of the above, passports will become much more secure and difficult to forge documents.

  • Clear window security

feature – This security feature consists of a transparent window with a custom image that can view from both sides of the datasheet. The Clear Window feature is available for both versions of the electronic data sheets, the standard configuration (800 μm thick) and the slim configuration (600 μm thick). This security feature is very difficult to reproduce, especially when combined with other security features such as secure printing, optically variable diffractive imaging (DOVID) devices, or tactile relief.

  • GoID ™ platform for mobile IDs:

HID Global’s mobile innovation enables citizen ID credentials to Carri on smartphones, which become end-to-end devices for receiving, presenting and authenticating mobile IDs, all with the highest level of protection for the Privacy. Go ID technology enhances the user experience and extends reliability to mobile credential authentication without connection to a computer network, while providing secure access to government cloud services. The platform is power by the company’s renown Sees® technology, which provides a secure way to implement mobile IDs on smartphones, complements physical documents, and adds confidence and security to citizen IDs.
