Who and in What Year Created the Google Search Engine?
Google is an American multinational corporation that is part of the Alphabet holding. It invests in Internet search, advertising technology and cloud computing. In addition, the company develops and supports many services and products. Despite the wide popularity of the company, not everyone knows who exactly created Google.
Acquaintance of Larry Page and Sergey Brin
In 1995, Larry Page, then 22 years old, visited Stanford to enroll in graduate school. His tour guide was a mathematical genius, 21-year-old Sergey Brin, who had already completed his Ph.D. Although the future researchers had many common interests, they did not like each other. Their acquaintance began with a heated discussion.
Subsequently, in an interview with Wired magazine, Page said that Sergei seemed quite short-tempered. Brin also felt hostility when they met, but noted for himself that the differences were not too serious. In fact, young people spent a lot of time with each other, which even then testified to a common interest.
How did the idea come about?
In 1996, on the recommendation of Professor Winograd, Page took as the topic of his dissertation the study of the impact of external hyperlinks from third-party sites on various resources on the Internet. Larry found that the level of trust in a website and the information it hosts is determined by how often other services link to it as a data source.
The results of the work carried out by the graduate student became the basis for the creation of Page Rank. It has become one of the most important factors that has given Google a leading position in its field. The science project that Larry came up with was called BackRub. However, he did not work alone for long. Some time later, Sergey Brin joined the study.
By the end of the spring of 1996, the first version of the search robot was launched from Page’s university page. He performed a test indexing of the Internet. For a qualitative reflection of the data obtained, scientists used the unique Page Rank algorithm. Its essence was that when ranking pages, the authority of the resource is taken into account. It is formed on the basis of the number of external hyperlinks from other sites.
The founding date of Google is September 4, 1998. It was then that the friends received the first funding and registered their company. Already after 4 months, the search engine indexed about 60 million pages. This was an important advantage over existing analogues at that time.
History of the Google name
As the basis of the name, the mathematical term “googol” was used, which denoted a unit with a hundred zeros. The term was originally coined by Milton Sirotta, the nephew of the American mathematician Edward Kasner.
Sale attempt and first investor
The friends received their first investment from Andy Bechtolstein. Its amount was 100 thousand dollars. At the same time, Page and Brin officially registered the Google Inc. brand.
By the end of 1998, Google had indexed more than 60 million pages on the web and gained a generally recognized advantage over its peers. Thanks to this, the private company Google Inc. took a leading position in the stock market.
However, in 1999, Brin and Page realized that the company absorbed them too much, and therefore clearly interfered with further training. Therefore, they decided to sell the company, valuing it at $1 million. With their proposal, the researchers approached George Bell, who headed Excite, but the entrepreneur refused to buy the company.
When was Google Inc.
As already mentioned, the Google Inc. was registered on September 4, 1998. However, a fundamentally new stage in the life of the company began on August 19, 2004. Then the company got on the NASDAQ stock exchange and became public.
Google offered investors 19,605,052 shares, each worth $85. They were sold through a unique auction organized by Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse, the underwriters of the deal.

Fast development
Since its inception, Google has grown rapidly. According to Amazon Alexa, 2 main brand projects at once topped the rating of popular sites and became the most visited resources in the world. These include the Google search engine and YouTube video hosting.
And we are talking about a global address, namely google.com. It works all over the world. In addition, regional domains are considered separately. For example, the Indian version of google.co.in ranks 12th in the world, Japanese google.co.jp – 24th, Hong Kong google.co.hk - 28th. The Russian domain google.ru is ranked 37th.

Use of AI
Google offers users the use of artificial intelligence service Google Translate. He uses neural networks in his work and has come up with his own language. Google experts believe that this language can be an analogue of the international auxiliary language Interlingua.
Google is a unique search network that was created back in 1998 and to this day holds a leading position in the world. During its existence, the company has offered users many interesting and useful services that do not lose their popularity and have no analogues.
