PFAS Water Treatment
The effective R&D branch of its sister business, Membrane Systems Australia Pty Ltd, or MSA, gave rise to PFAS Environmental Pty Ltd. With just an emphasis on continuously studying, developing, or sustaining its own locally developed and built water treatment technologies, both businesses were proudly owned and controlled by Australians.
PFAS remediation facilities are approved as Australian products. The best materials, tools, and equipment are used to ensure that our remediation plants are dependable, functional, and durable.
What is PFAS?
Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, are highly stable synthetic compounds used during products that withstand heat, oil, stains, and water. Because of these characteristics, they are highly helpful for a wide range of commercial applications, such as non-stick cookware, food packaging, pesticides, waterproof or fire-resistant fabric, especially firefighting foams (sometimes referred to as aqua film-forming foams, and AFFFs).
The Problem
PFAS substances are very soluble in water or exceedingly stable. This means that they wouldn’t deteriorate naturally, as well as that they may accumulate in individuals and animals. They can also travel far from the source point through ecosystems or move up food chains. Although scientific knowledge of the effects of prolonged PFAS exposures on human health has still been growing, it is well established that the pollutant is hazardous to various species.
Our Solution
It’s interesting to note that PFAS Environmental and Membrane Systems Australia have teamed up with the eminent University of South Australia experts to develop a successful restoration strategy that is affordable. Early R&D studies showed that >90% of PFAS were removed from water sources, and external laboratory results were below detection thresholds. This unique technology also has a regeneration process that enables the degradation of PFAS and regeneration of the capturing media, which prevents the sending of other waste for external disposal. Through this procedure, PFAS Environmental is able to provide a remedial method for PFAS that is entirely green.
PFAS Remediation Project at a Large Scale
PFAS Environmental/MSA just finished what is thought to be among Australia’s largest and most effective PFAS remediation projects, building on earlier smaller tests. The patented technology used in the PFAS removal system reliably removes over 90% of both long and short-chain PFAS/precursors in such a single pass and, therefore, can currently treat up to 2ML/d of contaminated groundwater. Once the water has gone through the polishing stage, our proprietary technique allows undetectable levels to be reached.
The project’s general layout includes a feed tank, two containerized patented technology pods and a filtered tank inside a modest footprint. With a PFAS Water Treatment rejection rate of >90%, It may scale the system to treat between 100kL/day to 2 ML/day.
Numerous contaminants, such as trichloroethene (TCE), pesticides, herbicides, and hydrocarbons, will all be removed using the proprietary media. Subject to local approvals, filtrate water is appropriate for irrigation, reinjection, and even potable water grading.
Solutions for the Environment Associated with PFAS
Our cleanup facilities were created to provide a variety of adaptable solutions, such as:
- Containerized plants may be easily moved between places and have a small footprint, allowing for quick deployment.
- Adjusting system capacity to accommodate flows ranging from 100 km to 2 ML/Day from a single train. To accommodate greater project capacity, more trains can be deployed.
- In addition to onsite maintenance, which includes the full supply of consumables and chemicals, there is also remote monitoring or operational support.
- Numerous commercial models have been changed
