House mold can appear around your house in any form including black slimy spots on the shower, white patches on the floor or kitchen drain and even slimy films on the walls. It is truly an unsightly thing to deal with. Sometimes the mold in your house can also impact your health especially if you have any sort of allergies or asthma problems.Though this is not really limited to whether you are allergic or not as mold can generally irritate your eyes, skin, nose and throat as well.

Mold can be a health risk especially for sensitive people who may be prone to allergies. The inhaling or touching of mold spores can cause allergic reactions ranging from sneezing, red eyes, rashes and runny nose. There are severe reactions as well for people with serious conditions like asthma. People with asthma are also prone to asthma attacks that are caused by these spores. Other than people with allergies, the other people who are at risk are the ones who have a compromised immune system due to any other condition like HIV, cancer or even those going through chemotherapy.

Mold is basically a type of fungus that is almost found everywhere. It Can range in many colors and often plays an important role in nature. It can thrive on moisture and its light spores can easily travel through air. These mold spores are usually harmless in small amounts however when they land on a damp spot they start to grow. During this time you may end up inhaling these spores and can experience health problems. 

Controlling Mold Problems

There are a number of things that you can do to control mold problems. Some of them are as follows. 

  1. Even though you may not be able to get rid of mold or mold spores in general, you can control it. Mold spores need water to grow and reducing moisture is one way to control molding. 
  2. You need to ensure that there are no damp spaces in your place otherwise the mold will definitely return even if you have dealt with it. 
  3. Using dehumidifiers and Air conditioners at home can reduce moisture. Make sure that the conditioning pans are clean and the drains are obstruction free. 
  4. Fix any leakages or seepages in time. Make sure that your house is not subject to any kind of moisture. 
  5. Use exhaust fans in your kitchens to ensure that the moisture goes out. 
  6. Keep your refrigerators, ice makers and other water sources clean.
  7. Dry out any standing water in crawl spaces. Make sure they are ventilated well enough. 
  8. Check your basement floors or walls for any leaks as water can seep in through these areas. 
  9. Ensure that your gutters are working properly and that there are no leakages. 
  10. Ensure that there is no standing water in your laundry areas or bathroom. Make sure to keep them dry after every usage.

Molds can grow anywhere as long as there is moisture available to them. So you can see them growing in any damp places like the bathrooms, kitchen, laundry and basements. In order to avoid mold you need to ensure that there is no excessive moisture around your house.
