Such kinds of competitions of axe throwing in San Antonio can add a lot of fun and also generate an extra challenge for the people contesting in these games. Let us, therefore, try to understand this game.

What is axe throwing?

In this axe throwing game, the competitor will try to throw an axe by aiming at a target, and they will try to hit on the bullseye as close as they can.

Let’s try to understand the scoring system:

At any of the locations sanctioned by WATL, your target is going to have 4 rings and in the centre, there will be a bullseye. Each ring will be offering some points however, whichever is close to bullseye will get more points, which is up to 6.

There are 2 small dots present on its outer ring that have a certain high-risk area and are called the kill shot. You are allowed to attempt a kill shot a certain number of times in this game and can get 8 points.

Any standard game will be consisting of 10 throws and then followed by tiebreakers. Every player will compete and who can score the highest points after the 10 throws will be a victor.

In each game, the maximum score will be 64 i.e. (8×6) added to (2×8), and also the above-mentioned kill shot will be available for scoring during the 5th and 10th throws of the game. Typically each player will swap his targets after 5 throws to make sure to get an even experience of playing.

How you should throw an axe

First, you must know a few safety measures:

  1. You must ensure that nobody is standing in the area all-around your target before you attempt to throw the axe. Nobody should be walking towards that side where you are likely to throw the axe.
  2. It will always help you if your axe is sharpened as that can easily stick to your target. However, after sharpening your axe, avoid directly touching the blade with your fingers.

While holding your axe, you must ensure that you have sufficient firm grip almost like a baseball bat. Try to keep the head as perpendicular and straight to your target as possible.

In case you try to rotate the head of your axe then it may fly sideways and can also reduce the possibility of sticking to your target. There will be 2 major ways to throw an axe:

  1. One-handed over your shoulder
  2. Two-handed over your head

Both the above styles are equally preferred by people and quite easy to do. Based on the type of wood that has been used in your target, if it happens to be not soft enough, then you will need more power. You can switch to a different style if your axes are falling down consistently.
