Best Budget Halloween Decorations

Who Doesn’t Want To Boost Sales All Year Round?

The most effective way to keep costs down with your Halloween decorations is by designing and making them yourself. Grab your super glue, find your brightest coloured orange paint, grab your sharpest scissors and let’s get down to work and create some spooky decorations that don’t break the bank.

It’s definitely possible to produce some wonderful decorations using various everyday items that you can hopefully find around the house. These are the kind of decorations you’ll usually find at your local Halloween student events on a Friday night out on the town.

Toilet Paper Rolls

There are various decorations that can be made from even the simplest things. Take out your old toilet rolls and cut some scary-looking angular eyes into them, next you’ll want to sellotape some green or orange glow sticks onto the inside of the roll. You’re done! Place these ‘glowing eyes’ in dark corners around the house or experiment with placing these in bushes outside your house to scare neighbours and oncoming pedestrians.

Don’t think there’s even more you can do with toilet roll?Well, grab your black paint because we’re going to create a DIY cute bat decoration. Take your toilet roll, turn it portrait and make an indent in the middle and top of the roll. Then apply your googly eyes and cut out another toilet roll and apply glue to the body of the roll for the bat wings!

Jack O Lanterns

This tradition originated in Ireland, where folk started to carve demonic faces into pumpkins or turnips in order to ‘frighten away Jacks wandering soul’. They would help ward off evil spirits and other unwanted travellers and this eventually became the Halloween tradition that we know today.

Anyway, let’s get started. To create your masterpiece you will need newspaper, a sharp knife, a permanent marker, a spoon, a candle and a lighter. Lay down your newspaper so that cleaning up any mess is easy at the end. Grab your sharp knife and cut out the stem at the top of the pumpkin, then spoon out the insides and discard them in the bin. Next use your permanent marker to line out the eyes, nose and mouth of the pumpkin. Our top tip is to make the eyes angular for a more cunning aesthetic. Take out your sharp knife and cut into the marked areas to create the face and light a bright candle and place this inside the pumpkin to light the evil smile. Congratulations you’re done! Enjoy scaring the neighbours away.

Spidery Jars

This is the perfect way to upcycle any unused jars that are laying dormant around the house. It’s simple all you really need is, cotton balls, plastic spiders from eBay and stringy glue. Throw these components altogether and put a green glow stick in the middle to bring the decoration to life! Place these on window stills around the house and add a flicker of light to every room.

Creepy Crawly Hand Soap

This one is very simple and takes just minutes with the right ingredients. Use your bathroom hand soap bottles and fill them up with creepy crawlies, such as plastic bugs and spiders. You get these budget insects easily from Amazon or eBay for minimal cost.

Bloody Candle Wax

Another simple yet effective, visual decoration to use in every room around the house to give off strong spooky vibes are these bloody great candles, no pun intended. All you need is some strong bloody dyes which you can find easily on eBay for cheap, light your candles and wait for them to melt, then add your blood dyes to them and enjoy the surprising visuals that it creates.

Top tip: To push this effect further, add some nails to the candles to create a more barbaric effect!

Mummy Mason Jars

Hopefully you saved some googly eyes from when we created those bats earlier because you’re going to need them again now! Apply glue to the outside of your jars and then wrap some bandages around them, slap on some googly eyes and the job is done. These decorations are simple but great for things such as children’s birthday parties.

Trash Bag Spider Webs

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure! Use black bin bags and cut long thin strips along the outside in a circular motion but make sure you allow for at least four lines to be cut going towards the centre. Be patient, this one may take a few tries in order to get right!

Ping Pong Balls, Loads Of Them…

We hope you like table tennis. Grab as many ping pong balls as physically possible and enough googly eyes to match. Proceed to place each googly eye on each ping pong ball and glue around 50 of these together so it looks like a batch of spider eggs with eyes on them. Make sure to hang these up on your walls for all to see.

Finally Remember…

Hopefully this article shows you the multitude of ways you can create spooky objects from everyday things that might be lying around the house. There are honestly too many ways to upcycle old, unused items. Use the things around you to craft the experience you need instead of going out and wasting your hard-earned cash this Halloween.
